Body Doubling Solo: Calm Cues While You Focus
Body doubling is working alongside presence. When you are alone, calm cues and a protected block can stand in for some of that scaffolding.
Body doubling usually means doing work while another person is present—on a call, in a café, or quietly nearby. The presence reduces isolation and makes starting easier. This guide is everyday language, not clinical advice.
What a solo tool can and cannot do
- Can: Keep one step visible, rotate a calm cue, protect a short timer, and invite an evidence line when you stop.
- Cannot: Replace a trusted human, diagnose ADHD, or force attention.
How Personal Focus approximates a double
- You name one task and one tiny step.
- During a focus block, a rotating body-double line reminds you to stay with that step only.
- If you freeze, free “shrink the steps” re-cuts initiation without shame.
- Optional AI assists cost 1 credit and only run when you ask.
If you have access to a real body double (friend, coworker, community), use them. The tool is a fallback for the nights and mornings you are alone with the work.
